Speaker Series: Brother Dutton

May 1 | 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

$15.00 – $20.00

Local historian Pete Skelly, who recently handled Dutton’s rediscovered personal papers and traveled to Molokai, will present this program in the Tallman Carriage House. Skelly, who takes an interest in the human side of history, will share his understanding of the man who came to be known as Brother Dutton. Come and reflect with us on the life of Joseph (Ira) Dutton,

Dutton moved to Janesville with his parents when he was four years old. After growing up in Janesville, he enlisted in the 13th Wisconsin Infantry and fought in the Civil War. Discover the difficult turns in Dutton’s path to faith and his personal conversion that ultimately led to a life of service on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Hear the life story that led to the layman Servant of God Joseph being affirmed by the U.S. Bishops for the cause of beatification and canonization, and Pete’s recent experience with the Church in Rome.

Your admission supports RCHS’ preservation and education mission.
